Windows 10: Can't unlock a find my device locked device

Used "Find My Device" to lock a missing device and now there seems to be no way to unlock it.

I am wondering what is the step to do to unlock a Surface Book device that I have locked it remotely? Is the other user can still sign in after I lock it remotely?

I have it with my staff right now, but I need to lock it since his contract is over before he could return it to the office.

 

Device Manager Un-Hiding Hidden Devices

When you connect a plug and play device, Windows Plug and Play manager detects it, finds and installs the driver. Device Manager lists the device with a solid icon.

The driver is only removed when you uninstall the device, not simply by disconnecting the device. When the device is disconnected, its driver is still installed. By default, Device Manager only displays connected devices. When you show hidden devices, note the Bluetooth icon you see is semi-transparent (not opaque). That indicates a "non-present" device. Sometimes also called a "ghost" device. The driver is still installed but the device is not currently detected (i.e. not connected).

Device can be disconnected when

• Device unplugged (e.g. removing a USB device)
• Turning a device OFF
• Disabling the device in BIOS (then windows won't detect it) or
• Device failure

So

• Check BIOS as suggested
• Check board connections
• Can b/t be turned off by a switch? or keyboard combination?

Also possible the b/t h/w failed

I understand your desire to try to unlock your device since you've found it after remotely locking it. I am here to help and let us work on this together. You may try to unlock your device by booting it into safe mode and uncheck the account is disabled. You may follow the steps below.

1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
   
2. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
   
3. On the first sign that Windows has started hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
   
4. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
   
5. When Windows restarts, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
   
6. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
   
7. Allow your device to restart into Automatic Repair and select Advanced options to enter WinRE.
   

Now that you are in WinRE, you will follow these steps to take you to safe mode:

1. On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
   
2. After your device restarts, you’ll see a list of options. Select option 5 from the list or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
   

If you can enter system through safe mode, you can try unlocking your account by right-clicking on Start > Open the Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Users > Double click on your account > Uncheck the Account is disabled.

If that didn't work, you may need to factory reset your Surface device from the sign in screen. Here’s how:

1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key + L. If you need to, dismiss the lock screen.
   
2. Hold the Shift key down while you select Power > Restart in the lower-right corner of the screen.
   
3. After your Surface restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
