Windows 10: cant update cumulative updates

For some reason a few months ago, I lost my ability to update security updates. Other updates install fine but any cumulative update downloads but after trying to install, it always says "we couldn't complete the updates - Undoing changes - Don't turn off your computer". It then restarts and the update is not installed. In the update history, it says failed to install. I have tried to install the update manually but the same thing happens. I also tried turning off updates for a couple months and now I got a message: "The pause limit has been reached. You'll need to install the latest up

i think they had a special win7 updated edition in may... in fact i thought they were supposed to be going cumulative in may, i even saw such an update!

 

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) will not install

Anyone else having problems getting the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) installed? This update has been failing for me & doing a failed to update after downloading & reboot, then rebooting & removing the update.

True. Anyone remembers how long it took to update vanilla Windows 7 with all updates released just 6 months later. It took ages even on high end systems. Windows 10 with cumulative takes like few minutes a year after vanilla was released.
