    Cant Update Windows 10 from Windows 7 SP1 Error:80070003

Hi guys this happens in the preparing to install phase of win 10 pro update, i've tried everything believe me but this error happens all the time and i think it's because my partitions or bcd are messed.

This is an asus laptop that came with windows 8.1 as factory s.o, but i didnt like win 8.1 so i tried to downgrade to windows 7 ultimate x64.

Windows 7 setup install wouldnt let me (gave me a message about having gpt partition or something) so i changed from uefi to legacy in the bios and converted from gpt to mbr i think and changed something in the partitions using diskpart, i really dont remember what i did, it was a while ago but my guess is some problem with partitions that is messing with Win 10 installation.

    So here's my partitions configuration

    C:\>echo list volume | diskpart

    Microsoft DiskPart version 6.1.7601
    Copyright (C) 1999-2008 Microsoft Corporation.
    On computer: PAULO

    DISKPART>
Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info
    ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- --------
Volume 0 F System Rese NTFS Partition 200 MB Healthy
Volume 1 C Windows 7 NTFS Partition 250 GB Healthy System
Volume 2 D Media NTFS Partition 215 GB Healthy

    DISKPART>
    C:\>

    ok lets continue

    C:\>diskpart

    Microsoft DiskPart version 6.1.7601
    Copyright (C) 1999-2008 Microsoft Corporation.
    On computer: PAULO

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---
    Disk 0 Online 465 GB 1024 KB

    DISKPART> select disk 0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> list partition

    Partition ### Type Size Offset
    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
    Partition 1 Primary 200 MB 1024 KB
    Partition 2 Primary 250 GB 201 MB
    Partition 3 Primary 215 GB 250 GB

    DISKPART> exit

No * in GPT (means i have a MBR partition right, is this why i'm getting the error?).

    Leaving DiskPart...

    C:\Windows\system32>reagentc /info

im sure the problem is disk related here but i dont know what to do. can someone tell me if you have found any errors in this configuration and please give me a quick guide on how to fix this so i can install windows 10? I didnt use Partition Magic or Easeus or anything, it was just messsing around with diskpart so i could install Windows 7 on my Asus Laptop.

    :)

  2. repeated issue with windows 10 installation

Matty summed it up wonderfully. I'm having the same problem, and so thanks to anyone who can post a solution. I've tried updating to Win 10 via direct download, via ISO image on USB drive, and it always fails. Ran Windows Update Troubleshooter, and followed
all the steps to resolve it manually as described on the following page, and still it always fails with the 80070003 error code.

Hello Picollo30 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

Want to see 10 go on without all of the headaches? You won't need the hassle of upgrading over 7 with SP1 first like I had to here on one of the two desktops both seeing 10/7 dual boots! Instead you can go a completely different route to get past the nightmares associated with 10 upgrades at times! Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First - Windows 10 Forums

I wish this had been posted much sooner since it could have saved a good deal of time while I still needed to find out what to expect anyways. "BUGGY"! is the best term for 10 upgrades as you soon learn! Then you only end up turning around and seeing another clean install if not as second upgrade install to repair the first! Did that been there before!

As for problems trying to get 7 onto an 8.1 laptop did you first look over the information at the Asus support site to see if that model even supports 7? If not oops! There wouldn't have been any driver support simply from being too new!

Now for simply seeing 10 go on fresh without worry over seeing it activated the guide there covers what you need in that area for seeing a Clean Install activated automatically without fuss! The best move is to simply "Nuke Everything" and don't even bother with the original OEM partitions but start over fresh and allow the 10 installer to find and bypass any bad sectors once you have a fresh primary on the drive to work with! No fuss and no drama club with disk errors thrown at you!
