Windows 10: Can't update Windows from 17763 to 1903

My PC recently broke so I'm borrowing an Acer Predator 7 gaming laptop from 2016 from a friend , it's running good but I'm completely out of ideas with this windows update issue. Let me explain , so I've tried just about every YouTube tutorial and Microsoft forum solution already to no avail and the issue is the update will download and install through the update helper , media creation tool and settings , it's all the same the it prompts me to restart but during the initial restart as the Windows loading dots come up it restarts a second time and boots fully without ever applying the update

Cannot update to 1903

O_O thats a lot of steps. Starting in a few mins. Quick question though:
You list a set of instructions for "Windows 10 iso as an in place upgrade repair" with links, and then you included a box for "Routine troubleshooting steps" with 13 steps including links.

Which should I be following first?

PLEASE don't hate me for asking this as this just occurred to me. Should I try the update in Safe mode? I downloaded the MediaCreationTool 1903, but it wasn't successful in doing the update, nor was it successful in creating Usb install.

 

Updates fails (Build 17763)

I've not been receiving updates for a few months now. It keeps failing. I have a 1TB M2 drive Samsung magician reports it as good. Could it be related to my key?

Tried still fails

• net stop bits

2. Ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak

• net start bits
• net start wuauserv
• net start appidsvc
• net start cryptsvc

• Restarted PC

If I understand correctly, in simple terms, you are suggesting changing the path/method of obtaining the 1903 update but still installing it anyway -

Surely if the problem is actually with the 1903 update then the result will be the same problems irrespective of how it is applied?

Please could you clarify in simple terms, step by step, what your suggested actions actually do and how this may solve the problem.
