Windows 10: Can't upgrade 1809 to 1909

Hello! I've been trying the better part of a couple days to get my Windows 10 install up to the latest version. I'm trying to upgrade version 1809 build 17763.914 to the latest November update (1909). After the update not working, I tried to use my USB installer with the newest version of the ISO file straight from MS.

I tried several times and took advice from multiple sources, but nothing seemed to work. My current version of windows is currently fully updated, by the way. After going through the process to 100% and rebooting, I get a login screen and login to this error:

We couldn't install Windows 10
We've set your PC back to the way it was right before you started installing Windows 10.

After several attempts and keeping a close eye on my setuperr.log files, I managed to fix at least some potential issues and reduce the log down to 11 lines:

Up until this point I had been starting the upgrade without the "Automatically download updates" option checked off, to try to simplify the process, and when I attempted again with it on, my setuperr.log file went up to 21 lines. I believe the root cause is in the 11 lines above, but I'll include the log file as an attachment anyone for someone who wants to try to help.

I'm not too familiar with parsing these setuperr.log files, so help from anybody who is familiar with debugging this sort of thing is greatly appreciated. All of MS's official help articles are completely useless.

Thanks to anybody with any suggestions, I'm pretty stuck on this & really do not want to format my drive and start from fresh. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Windows 10 update 1909

Hey,

I've just clean installed windows 10. It is build 1803.

Today awesome 1909 have launched. I want to update to 1909 but in settings it is showing me option to upgrade to 1809. My friend told me I have to upgrade to 1809, then 1903 and then finally 1909.

I want to directly upgrade to 1909 without going through intermediate steps. How can I do this?

At this point I am just exploring this topic and listening to all opinions.

Upgrading from 1809 to 1903 on my desktop was painless and error free, but it was forced upon me by MS. They ignored my update delay settings, and suddenly and unexpectedly the update/upgrade began. I resigned to it because I have four 1809 Macrium mirrors. If 1903 failed, I could easily restore.

Currently, I still have 1809 on the laptop. Are you suggesting to upgrade from 1809 to 1909? Now, 1909 is offered on the settings\updates page. I made two attempts to upgrade from 1809 to 1903. The first attempt was from the update link in the settings\updates and the second attempt was from Microsoft's update site - both failed. Based on this recent experience, the 1909 update will also fail because of Acer.

 

Upgraded to 1903 but it still 1809

Upgraded to version 1903 on my Acer laptop (which came with Windows 10 Home 1809). After everything completed and rebooted, I checked the version in Settings and it still shows version 1809, but the Updates display offers the next release 1909. I used another utility to check and it also displays 1809. So, I am not sure what to do next. Any suggestions please?
