Windows 10: can't upgrade my PC to windows 11 because the processor is too old?

When Microsoft first offered the insider version of Windows 11, it allowed me to upgrade an incompatible machine. I had the worst time getting the machine back to the latest version of Windows 10 using the HP system restore software. Now that I have successfully gotten windows 10 november 2021 installed on my HP ENVY-u163cl laptop, I'm wondering if I should replace the 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive with an SSD drive, or just wait to get a new PC?The main issues I'm having with the machine in its current state are as follows:1 Antivirus MS Defender often uses 100% of the disk performance.

Thanks--when I looked at the list the AMD CPUs hadn't been posted. At least some Athlons are on the list, which might make it simpler for you.

hmmm, my A10 Athlon isn't on the list so I'll have to upgrade processor and motherboard on two PC's. *Tongue

The only officially supported way to get 11 at this time is by joining the Windows Insider program, in either the developer or beta channels.

However, 11 has some hardware security requirements that many PCs that are more than a couple of years old don't meet. There are utilities to check for those . Here's one: Windows 11 Compatibility Checker 2.4 Download | TechSpot

It is possible to run the 11 insider versions on hardware that doesn't meet the requirements, but Microsoft has stated that the release version of 11 will not run on unsupported hardware.

It's very different from Windows 10 in that regard.
