Windows 10: can't use Irfanview with Windows 10 anymore - need explanation and solution

First of all, I'd like to complain that I can't access Microsoft Community Forums with my e-mail opened first. It refuses me access, then wants me to start a new account here. Microsoft has to fix that as one of its many bugs.


Anyways, I'm having problems using Irfanview on Windows 10. It suddenly stopped working, I've tried everything to fix it, and I can find answers nowhere. When I activate Irfanview as an app, it says that a problem with apps being incompatible made some of the features reset. Irfanview then shows up ONLY on Music player in Settings in Control Panel. It does NOT show up under Photo viewer. The Video player also gets reset - to NO setting. I have to reset both of these features - and can only access Windows Photo viewer or ACDSee, in the Photo Viewer feature.


Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on? This makes no sense whatsoever to me. I need to have Irfanview working again!!!

IrfanView + Plugin Pack


I'd suggest IrfanView + Plugin Pack (I've used it for ~10 years).

It lets you:

• View images (multiple formats)
• View videos (multiple formats)
• Listen to audio (multiple formats)
• Read txt & pdf files (probably other types too)

It's is one of the first programs I install in my Windows OS installs.

To help you with your concern regarding the Photo viewer, let me suggest you to follow the steps provided by
T.T.D. on this post and check if
Irfanview is on the list.

You can also check on the settings if Irfanview is available.

• Press Windows key+ I
  
• Click System
• Select Default apps
• Then click Photo viewer
• You can also check on Choose default apps by the file type
• Check if Irfanview is on the list

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
