Windows 10: Can't use mic with phone link even after enabling microphone in privacy and security

I linked my phone with phone link, camera works fine. Both in phone app and desktop app the phone appears to be properly connected. but mic just wont work. not only that, but I can't even select it in System>sound> microphone input. It displays as a if I didn't have any microphones using pc tower, not laptopIn privacy and security the phone link app doesn't appear and everything is enabled.I also went to System> system components> phone link. And tried to repair the app, also nothing.On device manager there seems to exist the sound driver for my phone. there seems to be a warning

Camera and Microphone Privacy

This issue occurs due to permission issue, driver issue, license for an app is out of sync with the license installed on the computer or if the app is not updated. To give permission to Camera and Microphone app, you may follow
these steps:

• Go to Settings.
• Select Privacy.
• Look for Camera, make sure that “Let apps use my camera” is turned On. You may choose the apps that can use your camera as well.
• Go back to Privacy and select Microphone, make sure that “Let apps use my microphone” is turned On. You may choose the apps that can use your microphone as well.

Mic not working in Phone Link. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your suggestions and I will pursue the experiment by buying a cheap mic to plug in the pink connector.

However, I just did a little more digging and this same issue popped up months ago when I first noticed this Phone Link microphone issue.

The following is a copy-paste of someone in the Microsoft community offering a fix:

I know this has been difficult for you, Rest assured, I'm going to do my best to help you.

1) Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure Microphone access is turned on.

Make sure Let Phone link app access your microphone is turned on,

However, when I go into Privacy & security > Microphone, Microphone access is turned on and so is Let desktop apps access your microphone, but "Let Phone Link app access your microphone" is not an option that shows in this section.

Why, and could this be a primary issue?

 

Microphone detecting sound but mic isn't actually recording

Based on your reply, it looks like you’ve successfully installed all updates on the driver. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, you might want to check on the privacy settings. You can follow these steps to check on the microphone's privacy settings:

• Simultaneously press Windows + I to open settings.
• Select Privacy.
• Go to Microphone.
• Make sure that mic is turned on. Under Let apps use my microphone, you will see an indicator if it’s on or not.
