    I'm trying to set up my new computer. I decided to make a system image of my computer on an external hard drive. I assumed the process of uploading it to my new computer would be simple and self-explanatory. It has not been. After much googling and trial and error, I found the menu in advanced reboot where I could hopefully load my system image onto my new computer. Windows said I needed a recovery disk. My computer does not have a disc drive. I do not have an external one I can hook up. I haven't used a disc for anything in years. After more googling, I made a recovery drive on USB and tri

    Recovery Drive versus System Repair Disc

    In Windows 10 there are two different operating system recovery/repair programs:

    • Using Control Panel | System and Security | Backup and Restore (Windows 7) you can create a System Repair Disc, typically on a DVD.
    • By searching for Recovery Drive you can create a recovery drive on a USB drive that typically requires ~6 GB.
    Is it important to make both of these, and when do you want one and when do you want the other?

    Should each of these be updated for major operating system updates?

    Hi,

    Yes, you can put it on the CD or DVD. A recovery drive (USB) or system repair disc (CD or DVD) can be used to troubleshoot and restore your computer.

    For you to be able to create it, we suggest following the steps below:

    • Insert the disc in the drive.
    • Open Cortana, type in "recdisc" and click it.

    • The disc creator will open, select the disc-burner drive with a writable CD or DVD in it and click the
      Create disc button.

    In windows 10 how to I create a disc that can reinstall Windows and applications. I do not know if it is called a system image disc or a recovery disc. I want to be able to reload everything in the event of a disc failure.
