Windows 10: Can't use Sony WH-1000XM5's microphone on PC

Hi, I can use my Sony WH-1000XM5's microphone on my work laptop win11, but somehow the microphone doesn't work on my personal computer win11. Is there any settings that I need to check to resolve this?What I've done1. re-pairing the headphones2. re-installing the bluetooth drivers for the headphones3. making sure my PC is fully updatedPlease help. WH-1000XM5 Connected music but no microphone

Hello,

On Windows 10, my wireless bluetooth headset only connects as a music device, and not with microphone (says "Connected music" in the bluetooth menu).

If I go into sound settings there is a microphone/headset device available "WH-1000XM5 Hands-Free AG Audio", but instead the PC connects to the headphones playback-only device "WH-1000XM5 Stereo". Manually disconnecting the headphones and attempting to connect the headset (right click -- connect) does not work - just no response from the PC at all.

If I unpair the device and repair, it connects to the headphones device again. Same if I delete drivers.

If I disable the headphones, bluetooth connects, but I hear nothing at all.

Please let me know if there is any way to get this to connect to the headset playback device rather than defaulting to the headphones.

Microphone on Sony WH 1000 XM4 stopped working on Windows 11

I've been using a Sony WH 1000 XM4 with Windows 10 and (after the upgrade) Windows 11 without problem for approx. 2 years now. Both for output and inpupt.

Recently, something broke. Maybe one of the latest upgrades. Symptoms:

• Output still working fine.
  
• Input via XM4 no longer working. I don't get any input via that device whatsoever. Tried via
  
• Mic Test reports "Apparently, your microphone is being used or blocked by another application. To start your microphone, you must temporarily close that application."
  
• Windows Sound Recorder app says "No audio input source available".
  
• Troubleshooter says: "Audio services not responding" and doesn't offer any further help.
  
• Mute button on my keyboard has no effect.
  
• Built-in mic still working.
  

Current workaround:

• I put the XM4 mic to "don't allow".
  
• That way, I use the internal mic but use the headset for audio output.
  
• Also, the mute button on the keyboard works again that way.
  
• Update: The workaround above doesn't work. When I do that, the internal mic doesn't work either. So I need to enable the XM4 input device but then use the internal mic. That way, the internal mic at least works. The mute key on the keyboard doesn't work however and software such as Google Meet reports that it can't access the mic settings. Bummer.
  

Things I tried:

• Some sources also suggest to turn off "handsfree telephony". If I do that however, the headset disconnects altogether.

To have better clarity on the issue answer the below listed questions, and get back to us.

1) What is the version of your Windows 10 PC? (To check the version of your Windows 10, click on

this link).

2) Did you made any changes to the PC prior to this issue?

3) From when are you facing this issue?

4) Check if your Windows is up-to-date by going to Settings >
Update and Security > Windows Updates and install all the Windows Updates if there are any.

5) Plug in a different headphones and see if the issue persist.

6) If you have installed any Audio Manager application, try to disable Sound Effects and check.

Meanwhile, try the following troubleshooting methods.

Before trying the below methods, disconnect your headphones from your computer.

Method 1: Audio Troubleshooter.

Step 1: Right click on the Audio icon in the taskbar and click on
Troubleshoot sound problems and follow the on-screen instructions.

Method 2: Disable Microphone and Hands-free.

Step 1: Right click on the Audio icon in the taskbar and click on
Sounds.

Step 2: Go to the Recording tab and disable
Microphone and Hands-free and try to use the Stereo profile and check for the issue.

Step 3: Then, disable Stereo profile and
Microphone and check with the Hands-free profile.

Also, you may right click on the Audio icon in the taskbar and click on
Sounds and go to the Communications tab and try to change the settings for communications activity.
