    CCleaner keeps reverting registry keys

So, I created a reg file to remove all CCleaner bloatware automatically after installing it, but from time to time, I notice that CCleaner automatically reverts to the default settings. How is that possible that a software can change registry keys on its own while being closed?

    :)

  2. 2 registry keys point to files that do not exist but ccleaner can not delete them.

    1) If you'r still on CCleaner, right click the registry key and choose "Open with Registry..."

    2) Right click the registry key you want to delete... Ex: {B2D2142A-9055-4C37-B3FA-EEFDD4C1DC59} and select "Permissions..."

    3) On the Permissions dialog box, click "Advanced"

    4) Next to "Owner: SYSTEM" click on the "Change" link

    5) From the users selection dialog make sure you select your user... (Use "Advanced" and "Find Now" to list all) and press "OK"

    6) Back on the Advanced Security Settings dialog box, on the bottom, select the option for "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries form this object" and press "OK" and accept the change, pressing "Yes" and then "OK"
twice! Close the permissions dialog box...

    7) Now you can delete that registry key... On the Registry Editor! Right click and choose "Delete".

    NOTES:

Be careful... Deleting registry keys is risky!

You should probably ADD EXCLUDE LIST!...

  3. CCleaner

    > Is it safe to install ccleaner on my pc?

    Depends...

Piriform (the maker of CCleaner etc) was bought by Avast in July 2017 and there was this nasty incident...

All CCleaner versions are bundling Avast AV and/or various Google products such as Google Chrome, a Google toolbar and possibly other products....

Microsoft Community has seen quite a few of related threads.

Recently more and more threads are popping up in the Piriform/CCleaner forum which hint at even more questionable methods...

Here are a few recent example threads:

IMO, CCleaner is not unproblematic and has to be treated carefully.

I, personally, would not recommend CCleaner to inexperienced and/or not so tech-savvy persons...

Suggestion to inform yourself before installing CCleaner (or any other product) and to always, always keep your eyes wide open during installation (watch out for any bundled softwares etc etc).

WRT to CCleaner on Windows 10:

    According to
    this
post Windows 10 blocks older versions: "CC v5.27 and older, (or somewhere around there) are no longer deemed safe by MS and automatically blocked when starting."

    ccleaner

2 thumbs up for Revo uninstaller

I have heard that it is risky to use ccleaner to clean the registry on windows 10. I use it only for basic cleaning.

Revo uninstalls then gives you an option to search for remaining files. When it does that, be sure to only select registry keys that are furthest down on the lists that are specific to the application. The same with folders.

This one is a poor example since it only lists the store key. Note: not a store app.
