Windows 10: CD/DVD does not show up in the File Explorer list

I ran into this problem with my new Windows 10 desktop, and I was wondering if the system really came with a CD/DVD drive or not! I brought up 'This PC' and it was listed, but not in Explorer. After reading all the very involved, and complicated 'answers', none of which worked, I investigated on my own.


The clue I got from all the online responses not just Microsoft Community, was about the drive being hidden. And I did look at the Device Manager and its settings,but this made no difference. Explorer still did not show the CD/DVD drive. The real solution is to go into the View mode in Explorer itself forget Regedit, and Device Manager, and then click on the down arrow in the 'Navigation Pane' box top left box in the Ribbon, and select 'Show all folders'. The D drive usually the CD/DVD drive letter will now show up in Explorer!


While it may been possible that some of the solutions given online did someone some good, I did not see anyone who said online that it solved their problem! It has been my experience that answers given online are only solved by someone who has encountered the very same problem, and that their solution solved their issue. Also, some of the respondents answered a slightly different issue, like that the CD/Drive did not work or had problems, which was never any of the issues posted by the complain tents.

Dvd drive not showing

Thanks for your suggestions, I have tried all the fixes and it still isn't showing, It is listed in device manager as working properly.

Hi Hankriegler,

I would suggest you to follow the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows key + X.
  
• 
  Click file explorer from the list.
  
• 
  Select the CD/DVD drive and hit Enter.
  
• 
  Select the files you want to copy from the CD/DVD, then select the drive where you want to paste or save.

CD/DVD drive won't play CDs & does not appear in This PC list in File Explorer

Hello --

The CD/DVD drive on my older PC with Windows 10 has stopped playing CDs, and the drive does not appear under This PC in File Explorer.

- Yet Device Manager lists the drive and under Properties>General states "This device is working properly."

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Further details:

- This is a reconditioned Lenovo ThinkPad T430s, running Windows 10 Pro

- The drive is Matsushita DVD-RAM UJ8C2 with up-to-date Microsoft driver

- Before it stopped playing and showing up in Explorer, some CDs were intermittently recognized within WMP. I thought this might be b/c of disc condition (borrowed from public library).
