Windows 10: CD/DVD Formatting Problem

I can play a CD/DVD in my optical drive but it won't recognize any new, unformatted disk on my Dell 6600. This is a new problem that has just arisen. I've used the same disks in my Dell laptop and formatted them without issue.

To make matters worse, when I run Troubleshooter it doesn't show "Disks" under Hardware.

I've run Dell's trouble shooter and it indicates all hardware is functioning properly.


Also, I've UnInstalled the device and restarted Windows to reinstall it. That didn't help. One 'help' session said go to device manager, right click for "Properties" and insure that DMA or something is unchecked... and my "properties" doesn't even show that choice!

In windows 10? But went to Device Manager Steps 2 and 3. Right Click, no windows update shows up. Any freeware you suggest?

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to update the DVD\CD rom drive and than try to format.

Follow the below steps and check.

Step 1. Press Windows and X keys together.

Step 2. Click on Device Manager.

Step 3. Click on DVD\CD rom drives

Step 4. Right click on the CD rom driver and tap on update driver through
windows update and than try formatting the disc.
