Windows 10: CD/DVD Writer/BD Reader Not Recognized as Writer By Dell 8100

I have a Dell 8100 XPS and when the hard drive went, I restored from an August backup (using Microsoft's Windows 10 backup) afetr replacing the drive. Unfortunately, I had a problem with the Ethernet adapter so eventually, I reinstalled Windows 10 fresh. The only major problem is that the machine recognizes the drive ( Liteon iHOS104) as a reader.

This is possibly because the 8100 does not officially support Windows 10 (according to Dell).

Is there any way to get it recognized as a writer?

Wrong CD\DVD detected in Device Manager-Win 10

I had a cd\dvd reader-writer originally installed, I have since installed a Blu-ray reader-writer. If you go to device manager it still shows the original

writer model # , Not the new model# that I installed. What can I do to have it recognize the new writer that is in my system Now?

 

After WIN 10 upgrade my Sony Vaio BD RE writer does not work anymore

My Sony Vaio BD RE writer processes CD and DVD-disks correctly but BD disks are not correctly recognized

and meanwhile I have miswritten about 4 BD-disks.

Searching Internet I found that WIN 10 drivers for Sony Vaio BD RE writers seem not to be available.

Sony recommends to downgrade the Vaio to WIN 7 or buy a new Sony Vaio with WIN 10 ???

Checked the system and found the disk writer is defined as Toshiba MK6461 GSY.

Please advise when or where the correct WIN 10 drivers for this problem are available.

This is not my problem. These solutions do not work for me. My problem is the drive is shown as a CDROM/DVDROM/BDROM drive only and not as a writer.

 

What does properties show it as in device manager? You can try deleting the device in the registry and let it detect again...

ATAPI iHOS104 DVD/CD-ROM Drive. I tried uninstalling and rebooting but it came back as a ROM drive again.

 

Interesting, do you know who actually made the drive? Because from what it shows in Device Manager, it is identifying itself as a LiteOn Reader such as the one here:

What you can do is run regedit and then delete all entries with iHOS104 in it.
