    Updating my old desktop into a Windows 11-capable AM5 AMD computer proceeded without a hitch 3 weeks ago.New components include an ASUS Prime X670E-Pro WIFI motherboard, a Ryzen 9 7900 CPU, and 32GB of G.Skill Trident Z5 RAM. Retained components include a Seasonic Prime Titanium PSU, an ASUS DRW-24B1ST j DVD writer, an nVidia GeForce GTX 960 video card, a Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe drive, and two Samsung storage SSDs. The system runs beautifully.Unlike many folks who have transitioned to streaming music, I am sticking with my library of CDs.However, despite the latest UEFI / BIOS, an updated

    Can't connect to internet with computer set with static IP

    My guess is that you made a typing mistake, e.g. typing 192.186 instead of 192.168. If this is not the case then I suggest this:

    • Set the machine to DHCP.
    • Check if you can ping your other machines.
    • Mark and copy the command below with Ctrl+C.
    • Press the Windows key+R
    • Press Ctrl+V, then Enter.
    • Repeat steps 2 to 5 for a static address.
    • Post the results of Step 2 (twice!) plus the contents of the desktop file IP.txt.

    cmd.exe /c ipconfig /all >> "%UserProfile%"\Desktop\IP.txt"

    For virtual machine and linux noobs I suggest starting with VMware Server 1.0.8. It's the easiest to start with IMO, and suits the needs of most people.

    Server comes with RPM packed VMware Tools, so there are quite a few distros that will work with minimal effort (won't have to compile from source). Tools is important if you're using a desktop/GUI, not so much if you're going command-line only.

    CD, ISO, Net based install -- not a problem. Even a live cd shouldn't be a problem, though I can't say that I've done it before.
