Windows 10: Certain files staying on hard drive even though I have clicked "Free up space" in OneDrive

Hello there,


I have an odd issue with OneDrive. I used the free up space option to get rid of the files i don't need on my hard drive and a select few video files say that they are cloud only and insist on downloading when I click them, but still show up as taking up space on the hard drive. This only happens with a select few files (appear to be all videos), which all take up space on the hard drive when I view the folder inside of SpaceSniffer. All the other files get deleted fine when I select free up space. I have also checked to see if the files have the "Always keep on this device" option unchecked and they all do.


Have any of you had the same problem? I cant seem to find any information on this issue.

Onedrive hard drive space

If you sign out from Ondrive, you still have the same Onedrive folder in your hard drive.

If you want to keep all your files in the cloud, selected it all as i mention earlier and click free up space, this will se d all your file to the cloud abd you dont have to worry about synchronization, all files will be on the cloud as you want.

By synchronizing OneDrive yes you have files in the cloud and locally too that mean if you have you synchronized files in your drive definitely have duplicated files.

What you can do is selecting the files that you want to keep it in the cloud to free some space in your dive.

just select some files randomly, right click over it then hit free up space, you will see an cloud icon next to the file, so the file will remain in your local onedrive path as synchronized file but wont use space size from your HDD.
