Change Account Picture in Windows 10

    Hello David, *Smile

The images at that location is what Windows uses as the default account picture. If you delete them, you will have a blank account picture if Windows will not show the account picture from Settings.

    Hi Shawn,
Unless I'm mistaken..in a roundabout way what you are saying is it wouldn't harm anything if I deleted all of the image's in that folder ? They are just so plain and ugly to me..I think what's bothering me more than anything is why my desired image displays correctly while using a 'local' account but not while using my microsoft account ?
    Thanks,
    David

You could delete them if you like, but it will show a blank image for your account picture.

I wouldn't recommend to do so though.

I would suggest not deleting them. Instead, create an adjacent new folder like 'User Account Pictures-Old' and move the files there (to be returned should you want them again later). Then, using an appropriate programme, resize the image you want to use to match exactly each of the different sizes used in the grey images you have moved out and save them to the original folder to replace the grey ones. Reboot and they should appear everywhere they are expected. This is how I got them to appear while signing-in via my Microsoft account. In my case though, the sync (still) doesn't work for the image - but at least I have an image I want rather than the ghastly 'grey thing'.

In my case, if I change back to local account sign-in, the same image file is still there should I wish to revert to local; i.e., it is still just the sync via MS online that isn't co-operating with my PC somehow in MS account sign-in. The notebook continues to behave perfectly.

    Hi All,
Thanks for all of the replies..I like this idea "I would suggest not deleting them. Instead, create an adjacent new folder like 'User Account Pictures-Old' and move the files there (to be returned should you want them again later). I'd rather have a blank space showing there than that ugly gray circle that shows when using my microsoft account..when creating a new folder, I should copy EVERYTHING in the current folder including the David.dat file ?
    Thanks,
    David

  6. Sorry - I should have been a bit more precise What I did was: copy, not move, every existing file to the new directory - all .bpms, .pngs, and .dats; then in the original directory, just replace/save the new user image files with the same names as the originals - leaving the guest and all .dat files as they are. Then I guess you can have guest sign-ins as well (changing these images in the same way if, as, and when you wish - but I haven't tried this myself).

However, I am interpreting that you are happy with a blank rather than another image of your own, in which case perhaps you can just delete the six user files - but as Shawn suggested, possibly not best practice. I like to keep everything reversible, and if a file has been removed, I have no idea if this might influence the system to change something elsewhere...

@Brink, sorry, I used this tutorial to change the Profile Picture, but I cannot understand why, the picture changed everywhere (market, account online, groove music, etc) but not on my profile picture on the PC and Surface3.
I change the picture from the webpage of my microsoft account, but on PC and Surface3, if I go in "accounts" my picture is still the old one.
thanks for the help (and sorry for my english)

Hello Paranoid, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

Double check to make sure that you have your sync settings turned on for the PC and Surface 3. Sometimes it may take a bit to sync to all computers that you sign in to with the same Microsoft account.

Sometimes it may take a bit to fully sync to all PCs. You could also manually change the account picture on the PCs to speed it up though.

You could edit the image in mspaint.exe to how you like to fit in the circle before using it as your account picture.
