Windows 10: Change default applicatiion for photos in windows 10

Hello,I am using a desktop running Windows 10.I am trying to change the default app for opening photos which end in .json.Currently the default App is Windows Media Player which will not open them. I understand that it should be Wordpad for this type of file.However when I try to change it ,I get directed to Microsoft Store which does not give me the option of Wordpad which is already installed on my computer.My problem started when I wanted to view some photos from my computer on my TV via a USB stick. I downloaded them from Google cloud. they were sent as a zipped folder and I was unsure

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

Can't change default photo app

• Right click on any photo in your system, click on Properties.
• Under General tab, click on Change and select the application to view the photos with.
• Click on Ok, Apply and Ok.

Windows 10 default image viewer

I suggest you to follow the below steps in order to change the default image viewer to Paint.

• In search,
• Type Default Programs.
• Check whether Windows Photo Viewer is listed in the list.
• Left click on the photo viewer and select the option paint.
