Change default file type back to GIF from DNG in Snipping Tool

For months when I used the snipping tool ST and saved an image, the default was as .GIF file, which is what I want. A few weeks ago, I used the PrtScn function, and when the Snipping Tool screen came up, and I saved the print screen image, the default was .DNG. Every since then, when I use the ST the file type default is DNG, and I don't see any way to set it back to GIF as the default. And suggestions here? Did MS make a recent update that screwed up this tool, which is there usual MO?

    :)

Snipping tool - change default back to save as jpg.

On a new computer with Windows 10, the snipping tool's default is to save as a png file. I save all my snips as jpg files. It is a pain to have to change each one I save. Is there a way to change the default to save as jpg. I have looked to try to
change the default settings, but snipping tool is not on that list.

  3. snipping tool

    Please try this:

    Step 1:

Click Start, and type Snipping Tool.

Right-click Snipping Tool from the search results, and click App Settings

    Click Reset,

    Click Repair.

Note: In Windows 11, there is no Snip and Sketch. It comes pre-installed with the new Snipping Tool (which replaces the old Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch apps)

    Step 2:

Turn off Focus assist if it's enabled

    Step 3:

Open Services.msc and make sure that the following services are set to "Automatic" and running:

    • Windows Push Notifications System Service
    • Windows Push Notifications User Service

How to change default file type for Save As option in Snipping Tool/File Explorer? (Windows 11)

    Hi Jakub,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

They have never provided a setting or option for that and there is not even a known registry hack to change the default file type the snipping tool will use
