Change Hardware reserved memory to 2GB

Hello I just installed a RAM module on my laptop, but my hardware reserved memory remains 298MB, I want to change this to 2GB, I found out how to change this but I am not sure to what value I am supposed to enter as I don't know what unit it is. Could someone please tell me the value I must enter to set my hardware reserved memory to 2GB.Thank You

    :)

how to change hardware reserved ram ?I have 8gb ram and 2gb is reserved and 2gb for system processes so I am getting only 4gb for use

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that you see 2.1 GB of hardware reserved memory. I’ll certainly assist you with this.

The reduction in available system memory depends on the configuration of the following:

    • The devices that are installed in the computer and the memory that is reserved by those devices.
    • The system BIOS version and settings.
    • System settings.

As you have already tried changing the msconfig settings, let us try a couple of steps and see if that helps:

    Enable memory remapping feature:

I would suggest you to check the memory remapping feature in BIOS and enable it. The Memory remapping feature gives Windows access to more memory.

Change the AGP video aperture size:

I would also suggest you to check the memory allocated to AGP video aperture. This is the memory that the system is sharing with the video card.

I also see there is a BIOS update available in the computer manufacturer’s website. You may also want to try updating the BIOS. However, we recommend
that you check with your motherboard manufacturer regarding BIOS update.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems
resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Let us know how it goes.

    Hardware reserved memory

Got that Nikola. The error you are getting which is the "hardware reserved" is almost related to BIOS. Since the previous steps did not work, let us check if the steps below will make any difference on the issue:

    1. Delete some files that you are no longer using.

    2. Re-instate the old BIOS. If it is still not working, install the newer BIOS instead.

    3. Check possible issues with the physical RAM. Check whether you have bad memory modules and if standoff cards are used. Make sure that the memory arrangement is correct.

Let us know if there's any changes.

    Thank you.
