Windows 10: Change login email to local win10 account.

Hi, my son and his friend have created a new local account on his win 10 desktop. Unfortunately, this new instance has his friends email account linked to it. My sons original account is still on the PC but non of his data, apps etc. How can I change the login email to this account or easily transfer all the contents from this to his old account?


I have read every post on this subject and am confused as procedures mentioned have different names now.

Surely in 2018 this should be a straight forward procedure that should happen instantly.


I set myself up as Admin for this PC to stop this sort of thing happening in the first place. His old account is in my Family links as a CHILD.


His old account had no issues asking for admin rights to install something which is great, obviously you don't need admin to set yourself up a new account on any ones win10 PC as a general user, and make yourself Admin, not so great.


So now my sons friend has access to not only my PC but also any credit cards linked to the account. Fortunately my sons friend has given us his password to his hotmail account to resolve the issue. Sure enough, I can see all PCs linked to this email along with credit card associations. But still no way to change it.


How do i fix this mess, and how did it happen in the first place?


Some kind of reply before win11 comes out would be appreciated.

User account info lost after changing login email






I recently changed my main Microsoft account login email and after doing so, all my 10 machines no longer show my name on the login screen (shows my email address twice) or in the Start menu (only shows the email address) and as you can see in the above screenshot, permissions no longer show as my login and email address.

Things I've done so far to try and correct it:

1. Change my account to local login, then back to my Microsoft login, which temporarily corrected it, but then after a few restarts, the info gets lost again
2. Manually added my name in Computer Management > System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Users... this fixed it, but again, only until a restart

Has anyone else experienced something like this and no of a way to correct it (and make it stick)?

To change your login settings from local account to Microsoft account, please follow the steps below:

• Click on Start menu and select Accounts.
• Select Your email and accounts and click on Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
• Type the details for your Microsoft Account.
• Reboot the PC for the changes to take effect.

Local Account password changed to Online Account Password

Hi,

I suggest you to follow the steps on how to switch from Microsoft account to Local account:

• Click on search in taskbar and type account.
• Click on Accounts.
• Now, under Your account, click on Sign in with Local account instead.
• Enter your Microsoft account password for confirmation and then follow the screen instruction.
• Enter User name credentials for your the Local account and click OK.
• Now, login to Local account.
