Windows 10: Change path separator from Yen to \

Discus and support Change path separator from Yen to \ in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; How do I do it? My locale is set to English United States yet my Windows thinks I'm Japanese.     Change path separator from Yen to \


    How do I do it? My locale is set to English United States yet my Windows thinks I'm Japanese.

    I do have Japanese locale installed but it's not default - the default one is English United States.

    Country or Region is set to Indonesia.

    I do not wish to uninstall Japanese Locale since I need it for some things

    Best option: make a System Restore point and then hit Windows + R, run intl.cpl (or see this), change to the Administrative tab and change the language for non-Unicode programs to "English (United States)", too. After restarting, the Command Prompt should be showing a backslash as the path separator and there shouldn't be a need to read the rest of this.

    If you don't want to change that language, the only workaround I have would be to hit Win + R and open %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools , find the Command Prompt shortcut and set the following options:
    • Default code page: 437 (or 850 if the option is there)
    • Use legacy console (sadly, while a vast improvement, the new console overrides these settings)
    • In the Font tab, make sure Consolas is set
    When the Command Prompt is open, you may need to set these settings again by right-clicking the titlebar, choosing Defaults and doing the same.

    If you must stick with the Japanese codepage, then I'd look into the clink Command Prompt extension and getting somebody to write a script for that that replaces the Yen character with \ in the prompt, but that's the longest option out of them all.
