How to Change Refresh Rate for Mixed Reality Headset Experience in Windows 10

Mixed reality blends real-world and virtual content into hybrid environments where physical and digital objects coexist and interact.

The Experience options setting gives you the ability to change the Windows Mixed Reality performance settings for your headset display. This enables you to choose the best possible experience for your hardware configuration across a range of content. The 90Hz experience is available to all systems, but you might want to try out Automatic first, to see which setting you prefer.

If you choose Automatic, Windows Mixed Reality will determine and choose the best refresh rate experience for your PC's hardware configuration. For most people, this is the best choice to start with.

If you choose 60Hz, the refresh rate of the headset display gets set to 60Hz, and some mixed reality features will be turned off, such as video capture and preview in Mixed Reality Portal.

If you choose 90Hz, the refresh rate of the headset display gets set to 90Hz, and some experiences and PC configurations might not run as well if your PC doesn't meet requirements.

This tutorial will show how to change the refresh rate of your headset display for the best Windows Mixed Reality experience on your Windows 10 PC.

*Warning You must be signed in as an administrator to change the Windows Mixed Reality experience options (performance settings).

*Warning Making changes to the experience options might restart Windows Mixed Reality if currently running.

  2. Mixed Reality Portal not loading

We appreciate your response. For now, the Mixed Reality Portal is only available with the Windows Creators Update for Windows Insider. In order to ensure which Windows build you have, you can follow these steps:

    • Windows + R.
    • Type winver and press Enter.

Once you've determined your build and have successfully installed the Windows 10 Creators Update, you may experience the new feautures offered by the update.

The Mixed Reality Portal may be greyed out because you havn't attached the immersive headset yet. Nevertheless, you can test mixed reality apps on your PC without a Windows Mixed Reality immersive headset by using the
    Windows Mixed Reality simulator.

If you need further assistance, let us know.

    Mixed Reality Headset not recognized...

    Hi Leo,

Reinstalling Windows 10, installing the latest updates for Windows and drivers should resolve most issues experienced on Windows.

Since your PC couldn't make the headset work even after reinstalling Windows 10, it is possible that there is something on your hardware that won't make the headset work.

In the meantime, you may refer to the Windows Mixed Reality: Enthusiast's Guide for
troubleshooting steps that may possibly resolve the issue, or you may use your headset
    using your laptop.

Let me know if you have further queries.

    Regards.

  6. Unable to change camera in mixed reality viewer

    Hi Danno,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate the request you are looking for, but currently you cannot connect a Windows Mixed Reality headset to a capture card because the Mixed Reality Portal doesn't see the headset, so you can't capture and stream this way.

I suggest you to post a feedback in Feedback Hub
for the same. Our developers are collating suggestions for the improvement of your experience in using Windows Mixed Reality.
