    I am now on Windows 11. I like to keep most of my files on my local machine but the defaults for everything is to OneDrive. When I open the Windows File manager and unpin the OneDrive Downloads and OneDrive Documents folders, then pin the local folders of the same name to Quick Access, within a day or&

    I am now on Windows 11. I like to keep most of my files on my local machine but the defaults for everything is to OneDrive. When I open the Windows File manager and unpin the OneDrive Downloads and OneDrive Documents folders, then pin the local folders of the same name to Quick Access, within a day or so they switch back to the OneDrive folders.

    How can I make my local folders the defaults similar to the older versions of Windows?

    Thank you both for your replies. I want to keep using OneDrive BUT only for the files I want to put there, not as the default for all my files.

    I want the default for all applications to be to my local drives and then be able to specify specific files to put onto the OneDrive folders. This is what I had on my Windows 10 and below.

    Is there something in the registry that can be changed to make ALL defaults be local?

    OneDrive is not a backup, it’s a cloud location of your data.

    The default installation of Office 365 and its OneDrive component uploads all the contents of the PC \My Documents\ folders to OneDrive, (syncs) and there will be a OneDrive folder in File Explorer containing cached copy of all the OneDrive content. And in Word etc the default Save location is set to OneDrive.

    No Docs/data is stored on the local PC



    You cannot remove OneDrive on a retail O365

    If you dont wish to use OneDrive there are numerous settings that need to be changed in each O365 component, but OneDrive will still be the default save location
