Windows 10: Change to Microsoft account caused me to lose Chrome bookmarks

I recently changed the alias for my Microsoft account and also changed the email for security verification. Unfortunately, somehow that caused my Chrome bookmarks to revert to bookmarks that I had as of about 1 year ago. In other words, bookmarks I've added over the past 12 months maybe longer have disappeared. Is there any chance I can get those bookmarks back?

Edge Import Bookmarks from Chrome does not work

Hi,

To resolve your issue with Microsoft Edge, we suggest that you clear your browsing data. Please follow the steps below:

• Click on the 3 dots at the upper right corner of Edge.
• Go to Settings.
• Go to Clear browsing data.
• Click on Choose what to clear > Clear.
• Try to import your bookmarks from Chrome to Microsoft Edge.

Where did my Chrome bookmarks go?

Hello KatrinaPappas, my name is Irisdiel and I am an independent advisor.

I suggest you follow the instructions down below.

-Search for "Bookmarks.bak" in Windows Explorer

-Right-click the file and choose "Open file location" to open the folder, which should be your Chrome user data folder (i.e., Users/[Username]/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data/Default)

-Open the bookmarks backup file in Notepad. Your old bookmarks, hopefully, are listed there

-In Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced sync settings (under the Sign in section) and change the sync settings so that Bookmarks aren't synced, if they currently are set to sync

-Close Chrome

-Back in the Chrome user data folder, find another "Bookmarks" file without an extension. Rename it "Bookmarks2.bak"

-Then rename the "Bookmarks.bak" file to "Bookmarks"

Shortcut access to Chrome Bookmarks

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue!

I am Bhavik, a Microsoft user like you. Please note, I am not a Microsoft employee and don’t have direct access to your account, but I will do everything I can to help you with your queries.

Since you can't pass "Chrome Inbuilt URLs" as a parameter in a BATCH file (check the screenshot - that will not work) - the easiest workaround would be to set the Bookmarks page as the default page to open on startup and then assign the shortcut keys to Chrome shortcut by going into settings.

Step 1: Open Chrome and go to this page:

chrome://settings/onStartup

Step 2:

On the right side, select this radio button: "Open a specific page or set of pages"

Step 3:

Click on "Add a new page" and add this in the textbox: chrome://bookmarks/

Step 4: Save and settings and exit the Chrome

Step 5: Search for Chrome in Start Menu, right-click on it and select "Open file location"

Step 6: That will show you the shortcut icon, right-click on it and go to Properties

Step 7: Put the cursor in Shortcut field and press CTRL + SHIFT + O

Step 8: Save it and exit

Step 9: Press CTRL + SHIFT + O
