  1. Change windows icons from JPEG/PNG source.

    Hello chaps,

Today I've been trying to change my windows icons look for folders. In the folder properties menu there is an option called "Chang Icon" in the customize tab. I've used Ifranview and also XNview to covert .JPEG files to .ICO files. The dimension of these files are assume large anough eg. 1002x587. However when I load the newly created .ico file as the new icon they show as very small in the file explorer especially in "extra large icon" view. Here is an

    example image: https://imgur.com/a/QjuNSDv

Here are the .ico file properties: https://imgur.com/a/07JBG0E

I realize this one is not particularity large, but I'm experiencing same issues with larger file such as this one: https://imgur.com/a/O1qA3nf

Am I doing something wrong or missing something to make this work as I would like to?

I would like the source .ico image to be basically the whole folder icon, without the white borders.

I will appreciate any suggestions or insight.

    Thanks

Edit: After bit off googling I've found this bit of info here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/uxguide/vis-icons

Icons have a maximum size of 256x256 pixels, making them suitable for high-dpi (dots per inch) displays. These high-resolution icons allow for high visual quality in list views with large icons.

Although it is from an article that's 4 years old. But it still haven't solved it for me, but maybe it could help some of you more experienced chaps here to succeed from I've sailed so far.

  2. converting photos from PNG into JPEG format.

I use different cameras - the last grouping of photos taken on a Canon / Powershot downloaded the photos in a PNG format, I worked with "Paint" to try to convert that file folder ( in PNG format ) into JPEG format. In doing so a few other photo files
converted to PNG from JPEG. I want to convert all my photo files on this computer to the JPEG format ( getting them out of paint ).

Windows 10 Image Icons All Look the Same

    Hi,

I would like to inform you that the icons that represents image files all look the same with no way to tell jpegs from gifs, pngs, etc. So, I suggest you to enable Windows to show extensions for known
file types. To do so, kindly do these following steps:

    • Click Start and then click File Explorer.
      Start
can be accessed by pressing the Windows key or by clicking the
Windows Icon on the lower-left side of your screen.
    • Click File and then click Change folder and search options.
    • Click View and then uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
    • Click OK.

You can now see the file extensions, enabling you to identify jpegs from gifs, pngs, etc.

Feel free to ask us for more assistance with Windows.
