Changed CMOS battery on my desktop PC and now my Win11 PIN is now longer valid. How can I log-in? The PC is connected to a hard-wired network, yet the message displayed say's I'm offline and to sign in with the last password used on this device. I have tried all last passwords and still not able to sign-on.

I've been having problems with my 12 year old Acer Aspire M3910 desktop. As far as I know the battery is still ok, but getting old so worth a swap. My date and time settings are correct at present. One of the possible remedies suggested on my other thread was to change the CMOS battery. I have never done this before. I thought I would (1) leave the pc connected to power, but not switched on, (2) pop old battery out and install new one. Is the above method correct? Because in the other thread, some said just put new battery in, but another person said - " When you remove the CR2032 coin battery, you reset the real clock and the BIOS configurations and you may need to reconfigure the BIOS. Most modern BIOS allow you to save the current configuration to a file and load it back in case you loose the settings. In my MB it is on the BIOS last tab" I'm confused. I'm also no expert. My previous desktop PC having a Gigabyte board would keep the time and date but would fail to boot if the CMOS battery voltage dropped below 3V. I never got more than 2 years ue out a CMOS battery but I did switch off the PC at the mains when not in use.

Because you have prebuilt computers.... you may not have the option to save your BIOS settings to a "profile". IF that's the case, I would go into your BIOS and make notes of the current settings. Then if the BIOS loses it's settings when you change the battery... you'll have them written down somewhere. ALWAYS check the BIOS's time/date, after changing the battery.
