Windows 10: Changed .exe File Type to "%1"%* Now nothing will open

I have a HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 15-dq0xxx. I bought a digital game download from the games official website. It downloaded and automatically used the install wizard to install the game. It seemed like it was installed properly as there were no errors during download or installation. Upon trying to launch the game, the icon would appear and then immediately disappear on the task bar, the game would not open. The game is older, from 2008. I tried to contact the company for tech support on how to fix the issue but i never received a response. SO, i began doing my own research online and aft

Exe files can only be opened by "run as administrator"

Corrupted registry settings, some third-party products, or viruses can change the default configuration for running .exe files. To rectify the issue with opening this particular file type, we suggest that you follow the steps
below:

• Right-click on the Start button, then choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
• Type regedit and press Enter.
  
• Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe.
  
• Double-click (Default) key, then set the Value data to
  exefile.
  
• Scroll down to go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command key.
  
• Double-click (Default) key, then set the Value data to “%1” %*.
• Restart your computer.

Exe file slow to open

A SFX archive isn't going to open right away. The files have to be extracted first. When you are opening it in WinRar, it's not extracting the file, it's just reading it which is why it opens right away.
