Windows 10: Changes to root folder permissions/protections?

We've been developing software using network drives mounted as M:, Q: and R: for over 30 years. There are various .CMD files as well as a master project now solution file in the root. We are finally trying to get our development environment working under Windows 11 Pro and we've discovered that our source control provider a 10+ year old 32 bit product that is no longer supported is unable to open any files in any drive ROOT for WRITING -- or perhaps it is having trouble removing the READ-ONLY attribute from the checked-in files before opening them for writing. You can put the files you want to share in the Shared Documents folder. Files stored in the Shared Documents folder or its subfolders are always available to other users on your computer.

How do I REMOVE a folder from the list of "Protected folders" (virus&threat protection setting "Protected folders")

Hi Mörre,

You can either add or delete a folder in Windows Defender protected folder. To do that, follow the steps below:

• Open Windows Defender and go Protected folders
  option.
• Click on the listed folder you want to remove, then click the Remove
  button.
• Click Yes to continue the deletion. Enter UAC permission when prompted.
