I have replaced my motherboard and cpu and I tried booting my computer, only for it to act as if it is a new PC with no windows installed. I am currently downloading the media file to install windows but I would rather not have to reinstall windows to prevent it from possibly wiping my disks.

    :)

  2. CPU for my PC

The Athlon X4 860K is also a decent cpu for that motherboard.

@NoOne18 Friendly advice, next time before buying parts for a new pc ask on a forum and wait for a couple suggestions.

  3. PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??

    Thanks Megahertz,

Here are the results of your suggestions (the pc was restarted between the chkdsk and sfc commands)

Nothing untoward there. I'll now to try to sleep the pc and see what happens.

UPDATE: Tried sleeping the pc 5 times and each time it worked as expected and the pc went to sleep. I'll have a dig through the Event logs to see if anything stands out.

Re: sections 1.1 & 1.2 of your post

I've had a look at the event logs and after the pc has 'initiated the power off of the computer for the following reason: Other (unplanned)' there are no further entries in Event Viewer until the syetem is turned on - Event Viewer says 'initiated the restart of the computer or the follwing reason: Other (unplanned)'.

    Section 2

Graphics card was a 3rd party card and not original to the pc build. Card is a Sapphire Radeon R7 250X with 1Gb RAM.

This website (linked from the Sapphire site) suggests the latest driver is 21.5.1 and says the Windows Driver Store Version is 27.20.21003.1028

    AMD Radeon™ R7 250X Drivers

I ran the 'Auto-Detect and Install Updates' software from AMD and accepted the recommended 21.4.1 driver suite:

I have also manually downloaded 21-4-1 and 21-5-1 just in case they are needed in the future.
