  1. Changing Default Program Installation Directory Using Registry Editor

I'm trying to change the default program installation directory on my laptop to my D drive. Everything I've read online said to just change the ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir x86 to the new drive path, however, do I not need to change the other directories to the D drive as well like the CommonFilesDir?When I did this before, I noticed that some programs were indeed installed in the D drive but still had files in the Common Files folder in the C drive. Is that alright? Thanks!

    :)

  2. Default Installation Directory Registry Values

In my attempt to change the default install drive for programs, I modified the related registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/WOW6432NODE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENTVERSION. The Common files directories and program files directories were changed
from C:\ to D:\. I noticed that for ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir (x86), the default directory for both is the Program Files (x86) folder. Wouldn't the default directory for ProgramFilesDir be Program Files as this is not (x86)? I hope this makes
sense but I would be happy to clarify more if needed. Thank you for any assistance!

  4. Changing Default Program Installation Directory Using Registry Editor

Unable to install Windows 10 updates after changing default Program Files installation directory location

I changed the default Program Files installed directory location in the Registry Editor, so the programs are installed on my Solid State Drive, as opposed to my Hard Disk Drive.

I am now unable to install Windows updates.

I have tried changing the registry values back, but as I have installed programs, these programs do not work once I have changed the registry values. I do not wish to uninstall and reinstall the programs.

I have tried several resolutions, but these have been ineffective. How can this be resolved?
