Windows 10: Changing full name in netplwiz broke my Microsoft account

I have two accounts on my PC, a Microsoft account I use daily, and a local administrator account. I recently very foolishly changed my Microsoft account's "full name" in netplwiz, not understanding what I was doing, and now I cannot log in to the account. It does not appear on the lock screen, settings, or control panel. My files are still intact and I can still see it in netplwiz. Is there any way to fix this without creating a new account?

I'm logging into my Win11 (version 21H2) with my MS account. I noticed it created a user account folder for me:

C:\users\amagh

My typical usernames are 'amagha'

I went into netplwiz and changed the account name to my preference:





I restarted my machine.

However, when I go into User Profiles, the account appears as I'd like it to, but when I open a command prompt, I see the initial (abbrivated) username:





How can I get Windows to recognize the username change and have it reflect correctly in the command prompt?

Thanks. I just tried that and after creating a local account with the username 'amagha', then logging back into the MS account, there's no change to the folder in C:\Users:

Since you have already changed the name on your Microsoft account, we suggest switching into a local account, and then log back in with your Microsoft account. This way, we can be sure that any changes made to your Microsoft account will be synced to your
local user account.

For steps on how to switch to a local account:

• Click on Start.
• Click on Settings.
• Click on Accounts.
• Under Your account, click on Switch to a local account.

To switch back to a Microsoft account:

• Follow steps 1-3 above to get to Accounts.
• Under Your account, click on Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
