Windows 10: Changing Monitor input from VGA to HDMI

I recently updated my Desktop and this has an HDMI connection.

I thought I would use this for my Monitor rather than the VGA connection.

However cannot get an appropriate resolution.

Any ideas - or do I just revert to the VGA ?

We would like to suggest to contact your manufacturer of your monitor to ask for confirmation. Ask them if the monitor accepts HDMI input and output. Some laptops will not still convert video outputs, even if you use a VGA converter to HDMI.

Just ordered HDMI to VGA converter. Hope this help. Last resort, or I just wait until the tv/monitor goes out and purchase a new one. It is an old tv/monitor with VGA input for PC and audio in jack, just now noticed it.

 

Monitors - VGA vs HDMI

• There are usually two kinds of connections: DVI and VGA Google them to see what they actually look like
• DVI is digital, VGA is analog
• Practically speaking the only difference is the fact that a DVI connection usually offers more resolution choices
• HDMI is kind of a special connection type. It's main advantage is that it carries audio and video on the same cable. That is why it is favoured for TV connections. You can still use HDMI for your Win7 monitor, but it has no advantage over HDMI
• In any event, your video output can restrict your resolution choices. It depends on what it is capable of. In some cases, older video circuits will not produce 1920x1080 images.
• In setting up a client Win7 machine, I would always opt for the digital setup, provided there are no problems
• If you set up VGA, most people cannot tell the difference. It may make a difference if you are doing photo/video colour work.
• A tip: Sales people often tout high priced HDMI as superior. Not true, there is no difference.
