Windows 10: Changing out DDR3 1600 to 2400

My present ram is SDRAM DDR3 1600 and was looking to replace it with SDRAM DDR3 2400 but my motherboard says this "Support for DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules * To support a DDR3 1866 MHz (and above) memory, you must install an AM3+ CPU first. "

I do have an AMD FX-8350 AM3+ (942) processor. Does this look like it would be compatible?? Tx

And Hyper DIMM support is subject to the physical characteristics of individual CPUs

Can I installed higher than PC 1600 RAM ? since 1800 or higher marked as (O.C) ?

My CPU is i7-3770 K 3,4 Ghz

 

Keyboard lag for 1st minute after Windows 10 upgrade

Maximum memory is not set, system has 16GB DDR3 1600

DDR3 2000 is the fastest tested.

That doesn't mean that DDR3 2400 is impossible, but there are no certified modules at that speed for your board.

 

I checked at Crucial and fastest they have are PC3-2133 modules that are compatible with your board.
I think your board also restricts the use of one module per channel when you run 1866 and above so you can't use all 4 slots.

I have similar MB, it's just v1.1 not 5. FX processors have 1866MHz memory controller and memory can be overclocked but you are not going to get almost any performance improvement with any frequency, 1% if even that with stability problems eventually.

 

Tx guys!! It was a "deal" on NE and I was interested mainly because it was 2 8GB modules doubling my ram, and not so much for the 2400. I figured it was on the edge so not going to take a chance and stick with 1600's

 

If it's a good deal and you want more RAM, you're safe with it. Just set it to 1866MHz and it will work with no problems, anything over that frequency is OC. 1866 is natural frequency for that setup. Just don't mix it with old ones.
