Windows 10: Changing the location of my library files from drive C to drive D

It has been a while since I setup my W10 PC. It has now been updated to W11. I have been ignoring the fact that my library folders didn't seem to be where I expected them to be. I just went back to look at the location of my library folders and noticed that W11 has changed what I am familiar with. There is no longer a LOCATION tab on the properties popup for any of the folders. At the bottom of the FE nav pane is a LIBRARIES folder. When I rt click on any one and open the properties option I get a popup regarding the location and icon. This doesn't look easier to manage than the previous arran

Change "D" drive to "C" drive.

How do I copy all files on my "C" drive onto my current "D" drive (including bootup files and Windows 10), then change my "D" drive to "C" drive and my my old "C" drive to "D" drive?

Hi Sonia,

You will not be able to extend your C drive into your D drive as they are 2 physically separate drives inside your PC, they are not partitions on the same drive . . .

You have a 265GB SSD and a 3TB HDD on your system . . .

What you can do to gain more space on your C drive is, move all your data to your D Drive

Open Windows File Explorer

In the right hand pane, right click your Documents Library folder,choose Properties

On the resulting dialog, click the Location Tab

In the Location box, type D:\Documents

Click Apply and OK and confirm the move

When that move completes, you should do the same for all your other library folders (Pictures, Videos . . etc.) with the exception of your Desktop folder

Please remember for each library folder, specify a different folder, for example, Pictures will go to D:\Pictures and so on . . .

 

My Documents file location set to a second drive. Unable to change file location back.

After installing a second drive I wanted to change the file location of 'Documents'. To do this I went the file properties to change its location from a file on drive C to a file on drive D. However I accidentally select drive D itself instead of the file
within it. Now I cannot change the location of 'Documents', nor can I restore its default location. When I attempt to do so I receive this message: "Failed to build the list of regular subdirectories under "D:\System Volume Information". Access is denied."

Looking for any help available.
