Windows 10: Changing the shell causes a problem with touch

We have a series of touch devices where we replaced the usual shell Explorer with another application a kind of kiosk setup. This worked fine for several years but with our newest devices, running Windows 11, the touchscreen doesn't work in the upper left corner about a quarter of the screen width and height.When the new shell application exits and Explorer is started the problem persists. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and simply exiting the following screen makes the problem disappear, but obviously this isn't a real solution.This doesn't just happen on one device or with one application. Yes, it works on 8.1, at least on my surface pro 3.

Couldn't do a screenshot cause can't get to Snipping tool while keyboard is up, so I did a "step recording". See attached. Pardon the background, it's my Granddaughter! Cheers! *Cool

 

How can I remove this virus remnant?

I was also going to suggest Autoruns.

Check to make sure it isn't attaching itself to explorer. It should be the 3rd thing listed in Autoruns, the listing for the Shell. It should just be Explorer.exe. If it is anything else, that might be your problem.

 

Touch keyboard pops up at login

If the above steps didn't work, we suggest that you disable the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service. Please follow these steps:

• Click on Start.
• Type Services, and then press Enter.
• On the right pane, look for Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service. Double-click on it.
• Locate the Startup Type drop down, and change it to Disabled.
• Click on Apply button to save changes.
• Click on OK button to close the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service
  window.
