Windows 10: Changing the user name in registry killed everything. How can I recover please?

I bought a used PC today. It had been cleaned of all previous data prior to my purchase but, after creating my Microsoft account, the PC displayed my name but not as the user name which appeared as the previous owner. The seller pointed me towards a post in the French community which supposedly covered how to change that so I followed the instructions implicitly and after changing the profile name got a message saying my Microsoft account no longer existed. I then attempted to rollback what I had done but was unable to get the search bar to work. Eventually I managed to launch regedit via

Steps: To determine the user account type:

• 
  Login to any account.
  
• 
  Press Windows key+X.
  
• 
  Click on Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on User accounts.
  
• 
  Your user account will show and below that it will show your local account or admin account.
  
• 
  Once you know about the account type.
  
• 
  You can go to user account and change the name.
  
• 
  Press Windows key+R.
  
• 
  Type netplwiz and press enter.
  
• 
  Select the account and click on properties.
  
• 
  Change the user name and click on apply and then ok and one more time click on ok on the main screen.
