  1. Changing Time Zones in Windows 10

I cannot change my time zone in Windows 10. The time zone option in Settings is greyed out.

I have tried all three fix options provided in other threads but no joy.

With COVID and the new normal of Teleworkiing, people are now Time Zone Dynamic. My computer sits in Central Time Zone but my work location is Pacific Time Zone. I mentally am in PST while logged into work and switch to CST when I log out.

The problem is with the computer permanently set to CST, all of my Outlook Calendar schedules are in CST. This creates great confusion when I create a meeting at 9 am PST but it shows on my VDI calendar as 11 am.

I must have everything in my virtual workspace following the time zone where that workspace is located.

Microsoft should make adjustments to Windows to be more user friendly for teleworking. "User-friendly" seems to have eluded MS since the early 80s!

    :)

Unable to change the time zone in Windows 10

I'm running Windows 10 Pro. My time zone is Jerusalem, but I need to change it to Eastern to test a program I'm working on.

The time zone won't change. I have tried:

    • From the clock/calendar, when I change it - it changes back.
    • From Control Panel - Date and Time, "Change time zone..." - when I click save I get the message "Error occurred - your changes could not be saved."
    • As the Built-in Administrator from the command line using tzutil - I get the message "Insufficient privileges to set the current time zone."

The registry key TimeZoneInformation has Full Control for Administrators

Administrators are listed in the Local Security Setting "Change the Time Zone"

    Any suggestions?

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern as you are unable to set the correct time zone after resetting the PC.
In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

    • What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed on the PC? (Type
      winver
      in Windows search/Run command)
    • What is the make and model of the PC?
    • Are you logged in to the PC as an Administrator user?

Meanwhile, we would suggest you to refer the below steps to re-register windows time service.

    1. Click on Start menu and type
CMD, right click on CMD and select Run as Administrator.
    2. Copy and paste the command and press Enter:
      w32tm /register
    3. Restart the PC and then try setting the time Zone

Also, we would suggest you to check the Windows time service.

    1. Press Window + R key and type
      services.msc, click OK
    2. Scroll down and select
      Windows time
      service
    3. Double click on the service and set the
      Startup type to Automatic
    4. Then Start the service.

If the issue persists, then we would suggest you to create a new administrator user account and check, refer this article to

Let us know the results. We will certainly assist you further.

  4. Changing Time Zones in Windows 10

    Windows 10 Time Zone tool?

Tested this once again and did exactly what the steps from above. After booting into Windows it did change to UTC from the list of time zones from the date and time properties.

The actual time however was still Pacific Time. But when I connected to the internet now the clock shows UTC.

I did a command SYSTEMINFO and under Original Install Date it still has the Pacific Time.

So yes, I can confirm that to show the exact correct time you need to connect to the internet or else it will not work. The only changes that do work when not connected is that the correct Time Zone setting (UTC) appeared on the date/time properties after doing the TZUTIL command during install. But the actual time was still reflected on Pacific Time.
