Windows 10: Charger tip broke off and is now lodged in the charging port

This is not specifically related to Windows 10, although the laptop in question does happen to be running Windows 10. For whatever reason, the charger broke off and the tip of it is now stuck inside my laptop, making it impossible to charge and thus unusable after it runs out of battery. Do I just unscrew the computer and try to pry it out?

Plugged in, not charging


There are 3 points of failure for a laptop that does not charge (And has been determined to be a hardware problem and NOT a software/OS problem). OS problems can be tested as mentioned above.

• Dying battery (end of recharge cycle limit) as DustSailor and bro67 have mentioned.
• Defective/dead charger/power supply
• Broken DC In port (very common)

Sometimes in the case of a broken DC In port you can wiggle the power jack in the port and see it starts to charge and then goes back to "Plugged In Not Charging" when you let go. But not always.

Sometimes with the Charger/Power Supply it is only the jack that is defective.

First order of business is to borrow a Charger/Power Supply (be sure it has the same voltage IN as yours) and test it to see if it will charge the battery.

The rest is replacing parts until you get to the offending one.
The Charger/Power Supply is cheapest to replace first.
Then the Battery
Then to the shop to see if the DC In port can/should be replaced.

 

Laptop no longer charging since Windows 10 update

Thanks for the response, but the issue is not the battery or the laptop. It was charging and working fine prior to this most recent Windows 10 update.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're trying to say. When the charger is plugged in, it just says "plugged in", but my battery has been at 2% for the past several hours. Obviously the charger is doing something since it's holding the 2% power, but it's not charging. There has to be some day to bypass whatever this update broke.

 

Charging Port problem

I have a Lumia 435. I am worried about the charging port. It is very tight to fit into the usb port. After changing it becomes even more difficult to pull it out. I am worried if this is going to break my phone's charging port. I am using the charger which
came with the phone only. Is it the phones problem or chargers problem? Please help.
