Windows 10: Charmap is having extremely slow response

I recently upgraded my computer with a new MOBO, CPU, and video card. This forced me to pay to purchase a Win10 license, even though I already had Win10. So, now I've got:


Windows 10 Home 64-bit 10.0, Build 18363 18362.19h1_release.190318-1202

MSI Performance Gaming AMD Ryzen ATX Motherboard B450 Gaming Plus Max

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor 12 CPUs, ~3.4GHz

Sapphire Radeon 11265-05-20G Pulse RX 580 8GB


Everything is significantly faster and better, except charmap.exe. Charmap is slow to open, and there's a literal 5 second lag between clicking anything and being allowed to go to the next action.


Checking dxdiag, I note this:

So, I am assuming something is borked with charmap. I need it to work because I use it all the time. Any suggestions?

Jumplist sometimes extremely slow

I bought a new laptop with Windows 10 recently.

Only after a few days, the jump lists started to get extremely slow.

But they behave that way just for a while, then they work as they should again.

When slow, it takes several minutes for the jump list to appear. It is extremely annoying. Especially e.g. when I have opened a remote desktop and want to open another one via the jumplist.

I had exactly the same problem with my old Windows 7 PC and assumed that I would get rid of that problem,
changing both PC and OS, but no.

I do not want the standard answers to this problem:

- Disable Aero

- Clear the (Explorer) Cache for Jump lists

- etc.

It is definitely something else. I mean, how would the jump list cache get full after only a week? And why does the jump list get slow only sometimes and then suddenly works just fine again?

So please, give me an answer that takes this into consideration.

 

Charmap

The new character map in win 10 (Charmap) is big and pretty, but it doesn't have the functionality I'm use to in win 7. Can I download the
hard-to-see character map from system 7?

 

Windows store downloads extremely slow

So after receiving the 0x803F7003 error yesterday some (and only some) of my apps have started downloading however it is downloading extremely slow and not finished anything. Internet connection is fine and I have tried the 'wsreset.exe' solution but it
is practically standing still. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
