Windows 10: Check disk stuck at 99%

Hi!My computer started a check disk upon startup on my external drive. I didn't know what it was and let it run.It now says "Fixing E: Stage 3: 100% 1 of 1: Total 99%; ETA: 0:00:00...", right under the ROG logo. And it has been stuck on that screen for more than 48 hours now. My external drive is 4TB but has less than half a TB of actual files on it. I read online that the bigger the drive the longer it takes and if files are corrupt it takes even longer. But I need my computer for school and I need my important projects that are on the drive, not to mention the pictures that are importa

Disk check stuck at total 99%

I have a laptop (Dell Latitude E6430) with an internal 1TB disk with some bad sectors on it (planning to replace it soon, data backed up)..
When I switched on the laptop now, it asked for a disk check on that drive and the check ran for about an hour.. right now its stuck for more than half an hour at

"Fixing (D Stage 3: 100% (3of 3); Total: 99%; ETA: 0:00:00 ..."

Can I do a restart or should I wait for some more time?

When you say 'update to Windows 10 stalling at 99%' are you referring to upgrade to Windows 10 is stuck or unable to update Windows to different builds?

If your upgrade to Windows 10 Is stuck at 99% then refer the link below suggested by

If you are referring to Windows updates then follow the steps and check.

Run the Update Troubleshooter on the computer.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Update. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Windows update.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
• Click on Troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
• Run the Windows Update troubleshooter.
• Restart the system and check if the issue is resolved.

Checking Disk Consistency

Ok i did as viper suggested, but it stops checking at stage 3. It is still saying the drive is dirty, and still needs to be checked. I did a defrag and a disk cleanup, and suggestions?
