Is there a way to check to see if the Windows Recovery Environment file is corrupt?

windows 10 "could not find the recovery enviroment"

I upgraded my asus transformer to windows 10 and now want to reset the pc to get rid of all the rubbish I had accumulated over the year. but when I go to windows reset it comes up with 'could not find the recovery enviroment'. If I try to restart with
the recovery usb I then get asked for the key, which I no longer have. help!

1. How did you try to reset Windows 10 via USB?

2. Did you try removing the app manually instead of performing reset?

As per the information that you have provided, I would like to inform that if you try to perform Reset via WinRE, it will not prompt you for a product key. I would suggest that you follow the steps below to check if you have followed the
exact steps to Reset your PC.

Step 1:

Download the Windows 10 ISO and create a Media Creation tool and then perform Startup Repair.

Step 2:

Once you have the installation media, follow the steps:

• 
  Start your computer from the installation media. Insert the disk or USB stick and restart your computer. If you see a message asking you to “Press any key to boot from DVD,” do so. If you don’t
  see the message, you might need to change the boot order in your computer's BIOS settings so that it first starts from the disk or USB. When you see the
  'Install Windows' page, tap or click 'Repair your computer'
  link to start the Windows Recovery Environment.

  In the Windows Recovery Environment, on the
  Choose an option screen, click 'Troubleshoot'.

  Click, Advanced Options
  and then click on 'Reset'.
