Check your Router !!! this is unbelieveable bad security

    Hi there

I couldn't believe this -- I'm switching my wireless connections completely from 2.4GZ to 5GHZ wireless (cable just upgraded to a nice optical fibre @ 200 Mb/s !! season 1 game of thrones approx 40 GB download at full 1080p with eng subtitles in around 65 mins over Wireless !!).

When changing the router though to use the 5GHZ wireless look at the logon screen I got propmted with. The default was printed on the bottom of the router --that's fine but it shouldn't have presented that on the logon screen.

So I'd check and change your Router passwords if I were you. The cable router (WAN direct optical connection) broadcasts parallel streams 5 and 2.4 GHZ - I've disabled the 2.4GHZ -- the 5GHZ is nice and strong now with new router.

(note this is the router I'm using as a WIFI-->ethernet bridge --the WAN (Main Cable router) was fine and excellently secure with a randomly generated password).

The download settings using the bridge max at 433 mb/s -- that's fine - you won't get that on Wifi though --. Still faster than wifi only on a laptop which is where I tested my new wifi before setting up the bridge.

    Cheers
    jimbo

  2. NO GATEWAY REPLY??????????whats that??

Or you may have mac address filtering enabled on your router... and if you haven't added the mac address to your router then you're not going to be able to connect.

Check the security on your router.

Nokia N86 & Netgear (Not Working)

TBH the problem appears to be more related to incompatability problems with the sky netgear router than with the nokia updates

    Suggestions

    1) Check your router for a firmware upgrade (instructions should be in the help for your router)

    2) Delete the access point from your phone,

    3) Connect to the router with the security turned off (just to check it all works)

    4) Set up your prefered security and try again

Check your Router !!! this is unbelieveable bad security

My two cents. Might as well put it there.

Anybody trying to get into a router for malicious purposes either already knows the all the defaults or can Google it up in half a second. IOW even with out physical access to the sticker on the router 'not' having it there isn't going to slow anyone down who wants in. It's not exactly top secret. Check your Router !!! this is unbelieveable bad security :)

OTOH that would be convenient for the owner who just reset their router, doesn't know/remember the default and isn't connected enough yet to look it up. I used to occasionally find myself in that position before Internet connected phones.
    .
A message about changing the default is certainly in order or better yet a script of some sort to force a change.

I'd lean towards the former, though I agree it shouldn't be in the logon prompt query. Anyone really concerned with their own net security isn't going to leave it at the default to begin with.

I'd also post the make/model of that router so it can be flagged.

As Datapod said Default router logins are well known, The most common are user name admin and a password either nothing or admin or password, Now if your router came with a random string of text and numbers that would be better, But until manufactures make it mandatory to change the password when you log on for the first time most people will never be safe.

Also manufactures cannot protect the consumer against someone having physical access to the router.
