Windows 10: Child Microsoft Windows 10 Account/Xbox Live Account/School 365 Account

Hi. I am new to Windows but needing to set my son up. I don't understand how I should setup his Windows 10 login? remember - total beginner at this!

So, what I want to do is set my son up as a child account. Am I right in saying Microsoft recommend you log in with a Microsoft Account? I want him to have access to his Xbox live account. His Xbox Live account is my Microsoft account. Is that going to cause me problems?

Also, his school will give him access to Office 365 which I presume will also be a Microsoft account. Does that mess things up?

Strange Windows 10 User Account issue.

Unfortunately I had done those steps numerous reboots, it just, reappears for no good reason. The base account isn't even a Microsoft account, it's a local account.

I haven't quite tried the built in administrator account on W10, but so far in my experience on my own computer, the built in account seemed to have absolutely no more control than I did on my own.

It's just strange, I go in, it warns me twice about deleting the account, then it's gone. Reboot, and it's back?

EDIT: Just to specify, both command line and Netplwiz both say only HIS account exists on the computer, it doesn't list this rogue account. This is what I meant in my first post about the fact that even Windows doesn't seem to believe it exists, HALF the time. *Frown

Yea, I would create a local account and just use your school account to login to Outlook and Onedrive.

Xbox Live Child Account Demotion!!!

I feel like sharing my recent experience with Microsoft parental
protection. Keep in mind as I type all of this my blood pressure is
comically high. I can feel the rage and stress on my heart eating away
at years of my life span. Given the number of very expensive and
highly breakable objects on my desk (the glass desk being one of them)
I feel I must contain my rage from physically manifesting itself, so
all I’m left with is words.

After seeing numerous positive reviews and remarks about Bayonetta I
decided to try the demo. I was told I could not download it because of
it’s mature rating. I found this odd considering never have I had this
issue in the years I’ve had this account. So I google'd around and
discovered my account is now a "child" account. It wasn’t before, but
now for some inexplicable reason it’s been demoted to child status. So
I think alright, I’ll just upgrade it. This is where my real trouble
begins. In order to upgrade to a full account you need to change the
credit card information. There seems to be no other method. Having
only one credit card makes this literally impossible for me. What can
I possibly change it too? I count this as fundamental flaw #2 in this
parental system. The first flaw being that it happened randomly like
this to begin with. How that would even prove I’m an adult? I have no
idea. So it’s at this point I decide to take this issue up with Xbox
Live support.

I explain the issue and a day later they tell me politely in broken
English that they understand my frustration and can’t do anything, but
that they will keep my complaint on record. What the fuck is that
going to do for me. So whatever, I leave it for later and go to bed.
The next day I try to sign onto live and now it’s telling me I can’t
sign in period, invalid parent email or some new bullshit. It prompts
me to change the parent email address, so I try that. I make a second
hotmail account and put in all the information and click continue a
few times, and naturally nothing happens. After considerable
additional frustration I eventually restart the console and try again.
This time it works. Now I can at least log in. I run through the
console family settings and find that everything is set to "allow" by
default. So you’d assume I should have been able to download the demo
all along, not so apparently. I’m assuming I must turn off family
settings all together to download it, since that’s the only option
that is faded out and not selectable.

To really top it off, I mean really just stick the knife in there. I
thought maybe I could borrow a credit card from a relative to promote
the account and then switch it back over to the old card. Well when I
go now to promote the account it says "Xbox Live sign-up is unavailable", every
time I try. Un-motherfucking believable.

I feel like beating the people who designed this system with a bat.
Every part of this system was in some way moronic and broken. It just
reeks of incompetent design, like why did all of this happen to begin
with? This is mind-blowingly unacceptable, and Microsoft’s “can’t
help, but we’ll remember your complaint” response is fucking pathetic.
