  1. Child's MS account security information changed by "UK Ministry of Defence"

Around 1 hour ago I received an SMS that the security information on my child's outlook or MS however you put it account was changed. This seemed odd as that account has only ever been used twice. When it was set up and when I set up the computer for him to use it on so I can have some parental control, but as of right now it's not being used. So I did not do this change.I have good security measures as an IT professional. I have 2FA on my primary account that controls the Family account. My passwords are secure and stored in a password vault third party service. All of my computers are us

  2. Child's MS account security information changed by "UK Ministry of Defence"

Around 1 hour ago I received an SMS that the security information on my child's outlook (or MS however you put it) account was changed. This seemed odd as that account has only ever been used twice. When it was set up and when I set up the computer for him to use it on so I can have some parental control, but as of right now it's not being used. So I did not do this change.

I have good security measures as an IT professional. I have 2FA on my primary account that controls the Family account. My passwords are secure and stored in a password vault (third party service). All of my computers are using the latest updates and I don't surf any insecure sites. Also, I have never given out this email address to anyone.

So, I first logged in to my primary account and checked that there was nothing funny there. Then I logged in to my child's account and looked at the security dashboard, access logs. There I had a "Securify info replacement completed" message from an unknown device, but an IP address that traces back to "UK Ministry of Defence". I live nowhere near the UK. I live in Finland.

This is not the first instance of something like this being reported. I don't know if the IP address lookup is 100% correct. If it is, and this was some wild attempt by the Ministry to access the account due to the security situation in the world right now, they're really grasping at straws through some bot action because my child is 7 years old and this account is not in use atm.

    Redirecting

I made sure that the security info was still in place (my own email and phone number), and changed the password. So, can someone explain exactly what's going on here? I have some guesses:

    - This is some automated security action by MS that's very poorly executed, as it causes an event to send out an SMS to the Family account holder when they run some automated updates / changes to the security info

    - The IP address is somehow spoofed or the lookup shows the wrong ISP and this is some weird automated bot activity to try and hijack random MS accounts but then the question turns into who gained knowledge of this email address as it is not been given to anyone or even used atm

    - Someone in the Ministry is actually trying to access random people's accounts for intelligence which is wild and rather transparent I might add

    - MS once again has developed a service that's very poorly hacked together and have no idea what's happening there by the look of it.

Could someone shine a light on this?

ps. I don't know why each question here has to be tied to a product. Microsoft accounts are not a product and Family account is not a product.

    Child account

I did set up a Child account, I did fallow all the steps window ask, the account say that the child is in the family, when I tried to log, give me the message "The Profile Service service Failed The Sign-in. User Profile cannot be loaded".

    Answering your questions:

    • Did you make any changes to the child account prior to the issue? No, I did not make any changes.
    • Since when you are facing this issue? Right from the start. I never got to login.
    • Are you able to login with other child accounts on the computer? No
I suggest you to restart the computer once and check if you are able to login to the computer. I did, the same problem, I do not have any problem with my account or my wife.

    Thank you for your help.

    David.
