Windows 10: Chinese hacker gain access to my Microsoft account and they managed to sync my data

Hi I’m peter fox – yesterday I had a Chinese hacker gain access to my Microsoft account and they managed to sync my data. He had hacked my computer and found my email address and password.

I now have full virus protection and have run windows defender and all is fine



The hacker is blackmailing me and has asked to be paid a sum of money in bitcoins otherwise he is going to contact my outlook contacts with disturbing details. Could you tell me what he has synced – is it just my contacts or is it other items such as passwords and favourites?

He has removed his device from my Microsoft account presumably after doing the syncing

Is there anything more I can do here

Microsoft Account not syncing WP8.1

Hi Michael,

We suggest that you manually sync your Microsoft account by following these steps:

• Go to Settings.
• Tap email + accounts.
• Tap and hold your Microsoft account.
• Tap sync.

Check also if you have the correct date and time set on your phone.

Let us know the results.

Turn On or Off Sync Settings for Microsoft Account in Windows 10


Looking at the picture 4 of the step 4 of this link http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadF...in-windows-10/ , I noticed that the window for data synchronization, which lets choose which data to sync, is never displayed when I step from a local to Microsoft account.

Why this window does not appear?

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.
