CHKDSK and Defragment Error on SSD drive

    Hello,

I'm using an SSD as primary drive in my system, windows 10 is installed in that.

2-3 days before, an electric power cut occured two times, while the system is operating.

I have one HDD for storage, one for running another OS. as dual boot

Two days before, while windows is booting, I got "To skip disk checking, press any key in x" and I let it check and repair the drive.

it started to repair drive C, few seconds later, windows boot completed and I see the desktop as usual. This proccess happened everytime I boot my system since then.

I decided to run defragment app of windows, but my C drive doesn't shown there.

After that, I run CHKDSK from cmd and got some corrupted file addresses I suppose that hex numbers are addresses, not sure. and"Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode."

Is this disk error somehow related with that powercut?

    What should I do?

    sorry about any incorrect language.

    :)

    Defragment and Optimize Drives Problem

    Hi Edward,

Based on the details you have provided, your C drive was unrecognized by the system. We suggest that you run these
commands and see if there are any changes:

    • Open
      Command Prompt
      as
      Administrator.

    • Run
      the following commands:

      • To fix any logical file errors:

        • Chkdsk C: /f /r

      • To defrag your Drive C manually:

        • Defrag C: /D /U

Update us on how it goes.

    Regards.

  4. CHKDSK and Defragment Error on SSD drive

W10 Cannot defrag hard drive volumes which are defined as SSDs.

    Hello Moek,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We regret the inconvenience caused and will assist you in resolving the issue.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • What happens when you try to defrag SSD?

    • Do you get any error code or error message?

Since SSD does not have any moving/spinning components involved, it is better not to optimize the drive as it will wear down and reduce the life span of the drive.

Follow the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

    • Open File Explorer by pressing
      Windows logo + E
      keys on the keyboard.

    • From the left side panel click on This PC and open
      Properties by right-clicking on SSD.

    • Click on Tools tab and select
      Optimize
      under Optimize and defragment drive.

    • You can also analyze the drive by click on the
      Analyze
      option from the same window.

Write to us with the answers to the above questions and the status of the issue on the same post for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.
