CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the bitmap for index $SDH for file 9....

Recently my windows-10 machine was not turning ON & was continuously entering the Automatic repair menu. After checking online I figured I should run a chkdsk /f /r c: as there might have been a problem with my HDD . In order, to be able to do this I had to insert a USB with a windows installation file & enter the BIOS menu and boot my machine via the USB and then I ran the above command. It ran for ~20 hours and ended with the below error.ca. Administrator: Xilwindows\SYSTEM321cmd.exe Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19041.2965]e Microsoft Corp

  2. CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated

I have Windows 7 and Windows 10 dual booted on my PC. Today, I tried to extend my Win 7 partition and shrunk the Win 10 partition to do so. Since the unallocated space was before my Windows 7 partition, I couldn't use Windows Disk Management and had to use
EaseUS instead. After the operation completed, the Win 7 partition appeared to have increased in size by the amount I had specified but the free space available was still the same as before. I ran CHKDSK and found this in the Event Viewer:

CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the master file table (MFT) bitmap.

CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap.

Windows has made corrections to the file system.

In spite of this, the issue persists. I ran CHKDSK again and it claims to find no issues.

What can I try to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for all the wikis, ZigZag! You've created quite a resource!

After reseating the RAM, I haven't had another crash.

However, you suggested checking the disk and here's the ChkDsk results:

Chkdsk was executed in read/write mode.

    Checking file system on I:

Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N) Volume dismounted. All opened handles to this volume are now invalid.
