I have a brand new installation of Windows 10 1909 on an old hard drive. I run chkdsk /r on C drive. After windows comes back, the Start button doesn't work. The search right next to it doesn't work.

When I try to open Edge, it says class not registered. The same for Mail.

I am able to open file explorer, from there I can open IE. I can even install FastStone Image viewer to view some photos. But it freezes after viewing only a few photos. not sure if it's related

I have tried a few things following some google results to solve the problem, but not successful.

I found that it's possible to use powershell to upgrade my Windows installation to 2004. I would like to know if upgrading to 2004 will fix my issues. Or should I just do another fresh installation of Windows. Also, in powershell, Windows 10 2004 upgrade is listed as 85GB. I am assuming it's only a reporting problem and that the upgrade package is no where near 85GB...

    :)

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:
    • Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
    • Try different keyboard or mouse.
    • Restart computer, repeatedly.
    • Google for related issues.
    • Update Bios, because why not.
    • Create boot media and revert to windows 7.
The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.

I would have suggest CHKDSK C: /R - that usually fixes issues like this. Glad you got it sorted.

CHKDSK: It verifies the file system integrity of a volume and fixes logical file system errors. Checks the file system and file system metadata of a volume for logical and physical errors. If used without parameters,
chkdsk displays only the status of the volume and does not fix any errors. If used with the
