Windows 10: chkdsk sticks at 12% for extended periods of time

Discus and support chkdsk sticks at 12% for extended periods of time in Windows 10 Performance & Maintenance to solve the problem; I have now a couple of windows 10 laptops (using hdd rather than ssd) where the system shows progress to 12% and then waits forever, maybe 2 hours or...     chkdsk sticks at 12% for extended periods of time


    I have now a couple of windows 10 laptops (using hdd rather than ssd) where the system shows progress to 12% and then waits forever, maybe 2 hours or so before completing.

    maybe someone can explain what is happening, but with the limited info that Windows 10 shows it is hard to estimate how long it will take. At least with chkdsk before windows 8/10, one had something to go on.

    reminds me of Vista and defrag where again Microsoft thought it was an improvement to show less infiormation.

    Unless there is a good reason, I would vote for MS to reverse this retrograde step.

    PS to save peeps posting unnecessarily, I am aware that I can subsequently see results in the event viwewer

    How do I save an email for longer periods of time?

    If the email has a bar code or something like that on it that you want to access throughout the month, you could take a screenshot of it and then pin the photo to the phone's home screen....that's what I do with airline boarding passes and it works really
    well. I don't have to find it amongst all the other emails, don't have to rely on an internet connection, and I can delete the photo when I don't need it any more.

    N8 and Battery issues covered by standard warranty?

    You need to visit Nokia care but depending upon the region the warranty may or may not be still under validity period.

    In Europe the Warranty is for 24 months. In India, provided the owner has opted for Extended Warranty then it will be for 24 Months , else its for 12 Months only. Not sure if the extended warranty is available in other regions..but in absense of it it should
    be 12 Months.

    It is how chkdsk works, around 12% it could hang for quite some time and suddenly speeds up.
    It is like with the DISM and SFC commands, the time it takes depends on how much there is that needs to be done.

    Of course you are right, stuck at 12% for a hour or more than goes to 100% in a blink of an eye.

    Hardly helpful, and as you say "how it works", but I am suggesting the way it worked on previous Windows releases is more helpful; with previous releases (not the dastardly win8) one could estimate roughly how long it would last, especially on phase 4, but not now. These % progress estimates are always relatively inaccurate, but the new Windows 10 is one of the worst - hardly progress
